An imagined friendship (an spiritual tambito) 2022.

In this tapestry – carpet – tambito, José María Arguedas and Gloria Anzaldúa write together a book which borders merge with the sea, using as a table an «upside down» world, where «the north» unravels, exhibiting its fragility and capacity for transformation. Both figures inhabit a background where emblematic quotes from their books “Borderland” and “The fox from above and the fox from down below” intermingle. The inferior part of the tapestry folds when touching the ground, becoming a carpet where visitors can sit to rest, chat or read the authors’ texts. Tambo is a quechua word that from thousands of years designates a sheltering place for travelers to pause. This little site offers an opportunity to meet these writers for the first time together, to recharge the spirits in order to renew ourselves thanks to their kind gazes and revolutionary tenderness.

En este tapiz – alfombra – tambito, José María Arguedas y Gloria Anzaldúa escriben juntos un libro cuyas fronteras se funden con el mar, utilizando como mesa el mundo «al revés», donde «el norte» se deshace, exhibiendo su fragilidad y capacidad de transformación. Ambas figuras habitan un fondo donde se entremezclan citas emblemáticas de sus libros “Borderland” y “El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo”. La parte inferior del tapiz se pliega al tocar el suelo, convirtiéndose en una alfombra donde lxs visitantes pueden sentarse a descansar, charlar o leer los textos de los autores. Tambo es una palabra quechua que desde hace miles de años designa un lugar de refugio para que los viajeros se detengan. Este pequeño espacio ofrece la oportunidad de encontrar a estos escritores por primera vez juntos, recargar el ánimo para renovarnos gracias a sus miradas amables y su ternura revolucionaria.

The piece was installed for the first time in the collective exhibition «Learning from plants, rocks and waters», held at SOHO im Ottakring together with Imayna Caceres, Hansel Sato and Alfredo Ledesma. That time I did the guided meditation «A flying kiss thrown into the air (a guided meditation by a plant», using the installation made by Alfredo Ledesma Mountain being.

La pieza se instaló por primera vez en la exposición colectiva «Aprendiendo de plantas, rocas y aguas», realizada en SOHO im Ottakring junto a Imayna Caceres, Hansel Sato y Alfredo Ledesma. Aquella vez realicé la meditación guiada «Un beso volado lanzado al viento (una meditación guiada por una planta)», utilizando la instalación hecha por Alfredo Ledesma Mountain being.
