Eco-internationalism for all? Workshop at Allied Ground, organized by Berliner Gazette!

From Berliner Gazette website’s description: «The workshops on October 5, 6, and 7 were the heart of the BG conference “Allied Grounds.” They brought together researchers, activists, and cultural workers from more than 25 countries and enabled new ways of spending quality time with each other.»

I participated in the one called Eco-Internationalism for All?

«If every economic activity has an ecological footprint, then it is obvious that we, as people who in one way or another work in a capitalist economy, have a significant share in climate production, albeit a largely unintentional and unconscious one. The ongoing restructuring of labor in the name of a green transition reproduces and even reinforces this destructive dimension of capitalism. Thus, reorganizing work as conscious and sustainable climate production based on internationalist alliances implies the following challenge: At the subjective level, issues of health (physical and mental) must be addressed in order to provide a basis for the growth of our political consciousness and agency as climate workers

Our resulting project can be seen here.

Virtual Sanctuary for Fertilizing Mourning at ZKM!

In August, a different version of this project was presented in ZKM, for the exhibition Sharing Knowledge on Common Ground. From Driving the Human’s website:

«With Sedekah BenihTrons ‘R‘ Us and Virtual Sanctuary for Fertilizing Mourning
August 12 to September 24, 2023

The exhibition Driving the Human – Seven Prototypes for Eco-Social Renewal runs from June 17 to November 26, 2023, at ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Presented in three parts, the exhibition shows the seven prototypes for sustainable coexistence that were developed within the framework of Driving the Human.  From June to November, the seven prototypes will be presented in three parts: Non-Human Perspectives: Sharing, Shaping, Sensing Habitats (June 17–July 30, 2023); Sharing Knowledge on Common Ground (August 12– September 24, 2023); and Speculative Ecosytems and Interspecies Collaborations (October 7–November 26, 2023).»

Some notes on Virtual Sanctuary for Fertilizing Mourning…

A bit late I found out some reviews on the installation of Virtual Sanctuary for Fertilizing Mourning last year at Silent Green, in the context of the Seven Prototypes for Eco-Social Renewal organized by Driving the Human. These first captures are from the article What Drives Us Together by India Block for Disegno Journal.

These ones, from the article «Driving the Human: prototypes that challenge our “quick fix” design culture» from We-make-money-not-art.

These other ones are from the article ‘Driving the Human’: an explorative event in redesigning our relationship with the planet» by Riya Patel

And lastly, an interview to Vera Saccheti made by Andrew Meyers for Pin-Up Magazine, «DRIVING THE HUMAN: HOW SCIENTISTS, ARTISTS, ARCHITECTS, AND POETS ARE COMING UP WITH CREATIVE SOLUTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE»

Driving the Human book is out! Salió el libro de Driving the Human

I am very happy to finally have the Seven Prototypes for Eco-Social Renewal book in my hands (and Tina’s legs)

Another beautiful and carefully made result of the generous initiative Driving the Human, which includes my project Virtual Sanctuary for Fertilizing Mourning @fertilizing_mourning . And a great way to remember the small communities and bonds that these years of work allowed to emerge.

An Imagined Friendship in Rotor / Una Amistad Imaginada en Rotor!

It’s a pleasure to collaborate again with Rotor Center for Contemporary Art in Graz, Austria.

This time my work An Imagined Friendship (A Spiritual Tambito) is part of the collective exhibition FOR… Dancing on the Street, including dear colleagues and friends such as Daniela Brasil, Imayna Caceres, Sophie Utikal, Masimba Hwati and more! On view util 21.10.23

«This exhibition is an expression of transnational solidarity with the courageous women* in Iran. But beyond that, solidarity goes to women* in other countries and regions of the world who also stand up for their rights and freedoms. More than forty artists and activists, most of them living in Austria, show what is worth fighting for. The list of FORs grows with every artwork presented in the exhibition. In this way we will tie in with Iranian protest songs, to which the exhibition title also refers: For … Dancing on the Street.»

A COLLECTIVE FAREWELL TO PS / UNA DESPEDIDA COLECTIVA PARA PS

On May 7th, I guided the activity A Collective Farewell for PS’s space

An open invitation to anyone who showed their work, enjoyed an exhibition, drank some wine, made a toast, laughed and gossiped, flirted and discussed, discovered something exciting and had some fun at PS.

Now that PS will change its physical space, we will gather for a collective farewell and to wish it a fruitful mutation process. We will inhabit the space together, remember our experiences in it, translate them into shapes, words and images, so that we say goodbye to PS doing what it liked the most: hosting curious and creative beings exploring enriching ways to express themselves, share what they love and become temporary communities.

PAIN COLLECTIVELY SUNG, JOYS AND TEARS TOGETHER WE HUM / CANTAMOS EL DOLOR COLECTIVAMENTE, TARAREAMOS JUNTAS ALEGRIAS Y LAGRIMAS

On May, I guided the workshop Pain Collectively Sung, Joys and Tears together we Hum, in collaboration with Xanthoula Dakovanou, as part of Healing Exercises: Inherited and (e)merging women’s knowledges for collective learning and interspecies connections, the 2023 public program organized by the collective I belong to, Mouries.

Description of the workshop:

A vocal music therapy workshop focused on the creation of contemporary vocal rituals, based on the ancient tradition of laments, as a way of addressing every-day loss related to the different crises that we traverse (sanitary, ecological, political).

We’ll consider our different relationships to our voices, their relation to our contexts and their gendered aspects, as departure points to share questions and experiences. The core of the workshop is a weekend dedicated to explore experiences of loss to create our own lamentations, supported by the music therapist and the group. We will do voice exercises, collective readings and discussion, drawing, writing and a closing farewell ritual.
